DOCTRINE
Below are three presentations of what we believe to be key fundamental doctrines shaping our beliefs.
The first is entitled “What Would Jesus say?” and represents an imaginary response from Jesus when asked “What would you want us to be teaching on this new website in Cape May County?”.
The second is entitled “Key Bible Teachings” and is a presentation in narrative form of seven fundamental core teachings which Paul sets forth in chapter four of his letter to the Ephesian church.
The third closely resembles what is usually called a Statement of Faith or Statement of Beliefs. Just about all churches operate with a statement of beliefs, however simple and brief or elaborate and complex it may be.
Please take a bit of your time and read through each of the three presentations and see how they measure up to what you regard as your personal statement of beliefs and values.
What if you find yourself at odds with one or more of the doctrines or teachings you just examined in the three presentations?
Some questions must then be asked, both of the teachings set forth by the Christadelphians in the three presentations and equally of the beliefs and values that you find yourself currently committed to.
The Bible is the authoritative word of God. The following verse from 2 Timothy 3:17 in the New Living Translation makes this clear: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”
The goal of any interpretation of scripture should be to discover “what the whole Bible is teaching us today”. This introduces us to three challenges:
First – We need to understand what the passage meant in its context of the early first century Christian church.
Secondly - The Truth or reality that it conveys then needs to be looked at in todays’ cultural context.
The third challenge it to ask the question, “If I changed my view of this teaching, how would it affect my life?”
The first two challenges should be met with a lot of study and an equal amount of meditation and prayer. The third is very personal and calls only for prayer and commitment.
There are numerous resources available today for one that is searching that were not available to previous generations. They can be extremely valuable to us in our search for truth and faith.
A major part of the commitment that this website is making is to help those who are searching use the tools and resources that are available today. These resources are available in the Cape May Online BIBLE EDUCATION CENTER. Please take a look at what’s available currently in the BEC and sign up below for our bi-weekly newsletter which will help keep you abreast of additions and enhancements to our website and overall mission.
